Guilty verdict in case of man accused of store clerk's murder in Bensenville

A DuPage County jury delivered a guilty verdict Friday evening in the murder trial of a Chicago man accused of fatally shooting a store clerk during a bungled hold-up, prosecutors said. After listening to about two hours of closing arguments and deliberating three hours, jurors found Stephan A. Russell, 23 guilty of the first-degree murder of Hussein Saghir, who was shot outside his Bensenville tobacco store on the evening of Jan 19, 2014.

A second alleged accomplice in a botched convenience mart holdup in Bensenville identified his friend Stephan Russell on Wednesday as the person who fatally shot the store's clerk in 2014. During Russell's murder trial in DuPage County court, Tremayne Davis, 26, of Chicago, testified how he drove with Russell, 23, and another man to the Sam's Tobacco store on Irving Park Road on Jan. 19, 2014.

A main prosecution witness refused to answer any questions Tuesday about the fatal shooting of a store clerk in Bensenville as the murder trial of a Chicago began Tuesday in DuPage County court. Kenneth Bardlett, of Chicago, was supposed to testify about the actions of Stephan A. Russell, 23, of Chicago, who is charged with shooting Hussein Saghir to death during a botched hold-up on Jan. 19, 2014, at a Bensenville convenience store.

Puchalski, Tornatore returning to DuPage County Board

In the race for the 4-year seat, Addison attorney Donald Puchalski easily defeated his challenger, Roland "Rolly" Waller, a Bensenville Democrat who railed against noise from O'Hare International Airport during his second attempt to win a seat on the county board. With all 133 precincts reporting, Puchalski had nearly 56 percent of the vote while Waller had about 44 percent, unofficial results show.

Nearly $287.1 million in construction and professional engineering service contracts have been approved by the Tollway Board so far in 2016, as part of the fifth year of the Tollway's 15-year, $12 billion capital program, Move Illinois: The Illinois Tollway Driving the Future. The Illinois Tollway Board of Directors today approved three new construction contracts and two new professional engineering services contracts totaling $35.9 million at its October meeting, including mentoring opportunities for two African American-owned firms as part of the Illinois Tollway's Partnering For Growth Program.

Wheaton council decides not to change city code to allow for backyard chickens

Despite a request from a family that owns chickens, the Wheaton City Council will not change its code to allow residents to keep the birds in their backyards -- at least for now. City code states that livestock or similar animals are allowed in the city for a maximum of 90 days, but only for 4-H or similar educational projects.
