With muted lights, soft music and floor-to-ceiling windows, the Living Room is designed to be an oasis -- a deliberate contrast to the emergency rooms many of its guests have frequented. Operated by the National Alliance on Mental Illness in DuPage County, this room, at the health department community center in Wheaton, invites guests to talk as much and as openly as they want about the mental health crises that brought them to the new facility seeking help and hope.

A "racially motivated" text message between two Naperville Central High School students resulted in a physical altercation at the school last week, authorities said Tuesday.
